Privacy
This site is run by the Berkeley High School Class of 1977 reunion committee. We will use this site to raise donations and sell tickets to the reunion. We do not sell anything else, and we will never sell, rent or pass on your email to anyone. This page explains what we may hold about you, what other people can see, and how to change it.
Where your information came from
Most of it came from what you gave us yourself, over the years, through the previous BHS reunion site. Our records of names come from among these places:
- the class website’s own registration list, which classmates filled in between 1997 and 2016
- a class mailing list from the 2007 Reunion
- the 1977 yearbook
- the 1987 ten-year reunion book
What we hold
- Your name, the name you went by at school, and your class year
- The town and state you last told us
- Your occupation, if you gave one
- Your email address, and any older addresses we have for you
- Your answers about past reunions
- For some people, a postal address and telephone number
What other people can see
Anyone, without signing in, can see your name, your class year, and a small, blurred version of your yearbook photograph. The home page shows yearbook faces without names. None of that is private to begin with. The 1977 yearbook is a published book and has been digitized, so anyone who wants to know who was in the class can already find out.
Classmates who are signed in can see the records of other classmates, which show the town and state they provided, their occupation, their attendance at previous reunions, and their photographs at normal size.
Nobody will ever see your email address, your postal address, or your telephone number. These are never displayed on the class list page. We hold them so that we can contact you about the reunion. If someone provides personal information in a guestbook entry, we don’t filter that.
If you signed the guestbook, what you wrote is public.
Photographs
If you add a current photograph the EXIF and GPS information is removed.
We collect your email in order for us to write to you about the reunion, and to send you a sign-in link when you request one.
Our email is sent through a mail delivery service, which handles the delivery. We keep a record of what was sent and to whom, so we can tell whether a message arrived.
Signing in
There are no passwords used on this site. You ask for a link, we email it to an address on your record, and following it signs you in.
Your IP address is not part of your entry, and nothing we hold about you is keyed to it. To stop the sign-in form being abused we keep a scrambled fingerprint of the request, which cannot be turned back into an address or a person.
The site leaves a few cookies in your browser so it remembers you. There is no advertising, and nothing you do here is sold, shared or passed to anyone.
When you visit
While you are signed in, we note when you visit, how many pages you read, and the type of device you use (phone, tablet or computer), so we can make the site work well on each. If you’re not signed in, we only count visits. We keep nothing that identifies you.
The company that hosts the site keeps its own log of every request, as all web hosts do.
Getting in touch
If you have any comments or concerns about the website, use the contact page, and one of us will read it.
